Worship

At its best, worship lies at the heart of the life of Black Rock Uniting Church. Through worship—and particularly through the intimacy of sharing Holy Communion—we are nourished and sustained in our faith.

Diverse & Engaging Worship

We offer creative and flexible worship suited to busy lives. Our services are sometimes lively and creative, other times quiet and contemplative. We value the opening of God's Word in ways that are reflective, relevant, challenging and engaging. Music and song, both traditional and contemporary, enrich our worship and unite us in faith.

Fellowship

At its best, fellowship—a sense of family and belonging—is central to the life of Black Rock Uniting Church. This sense of community is experienced through worship, small groups and shared activities.

Building Connections Across Generations

We nurture fellowship as people of all ages are involved in the life and practical functioning of the church, caring for one another and sharing responsibilities. Our young people feel a strong sense of belonging within the wider church family, and their participation enriches the whole congregation.

Demonstrating God's Love

At its best, we demonstrate God's love through the example of our lives and through our personal actions and influence. Members are involved in a wide range of voluntary and community services.

Open Facilities for Community Use

Our church buildings are well resourced and available for use by both church members and the wider community. We respond actively to the needs of the world around us and encourage people to live as followers of Jesus—seeking peace, justice and compassion in their homes, workplaces and communities.

Vision: Towards God's Future

🙏 A Centre of Excellence for Creative Worship

We seek to become a centre of excellence for creative worship, offering diverse and flexible opportunities suited to busy lives—including family-friendly services, contemplative worship, special Communion services and worship for younger people. Our church will be open for prayer and reflection, and small groups will gather for prayer, Bible study and mutual support.

We seek to support our members spiritually, practically and financially, enabling them to serve the community and demonstrate God's love in tangible ways. Our facilities will be used more widely for community purposes, and we will respond actively to the needs of the world around us. Everything we do will encourage people to live as followers of Jesus—seeking peace, justice and compassion in their homes, workplaces and communities.

What We Believe

Black Rock Uniting Church is part of the Christian Church and belongs to the Uniting Church in Australia, whose faith is grounded in The Basis of Union.

The Trinity: We believe in one God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ: We believe in Jesus Christ, God's Son, who became human, lived among us, was crucified and rose again.

Universal Love: God's love is shared with all people, beyond divisions of race, gender or social status.

Church Unity: We believe in the unity of the Church, so that the world may believe in Christ.

Core Beliefs

Scripture: Through the Scriptures we hear Christ speaking, meeting us, feeding us and guiding us.

Holy Sacraments: We celebrate Baptism and the Lord's Supper, through which Christ embraces and nourishes God's people.

Ancient Creeds: We affirm the faith expressed in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.

Faithful Response: We respond faithfully to contemporary issues, confessing Christ in renewed language and action.

Holy Spirit's Gifts: God's Spirit gifts all members of the Church and calls them to serve God in the world.

God's Glory: God is glorified through the worship, witness and service of the Church.

Faith in Practice

Our faith is not mere knowledge—it is a guide for living. Christians are called to embody their faith in daily life through compassionate action, justice-seeking, and love. We believe that our worship, witness, and service reflect God's glory and demonstrate Christ's love to the world.
